There is no PrivateCite subscription or usage fee for the bundled local model or for connecting to your own private LAN endpoint. If you deliberately configure a paid third-party endpoint, its charges are separate. The Microsoft Store may display local currency and applicable taxes at checkout.
PrivateCite is not a conversational assistant. It is a structured evidence workflow for sensitive source collections: maintain a focused project index, retrieve and inspect passages, control which evidence is included, run a multi-stage analysis and produce a cited report. General-purpose AI tools may offer broader reasoning, but they do not provide this controlled local research process.
The current release includes a 9-billion-parameter Qwen model with 4-bit quantization, selected for strong performance on consumer hardware. PrivateCite's prompts and analysis workflow are tuned and tested against this bundled model for consistent local results. The model may change in future releases as better hardware-efficient options become available. A modern NVIDIA or AMD GPU with 8 GB or more VRAM is recommended. It can run with 6 GB VRAM, but speed and capacity will vary.
No for the standard local workflow. PrivateCite downloads its validated bundled model on first use and configures the local AI for you. No separate model server, account or API key is required. Connecting to your own OpenAI-compatible model on a private LAN is an optional advanced configuration.
Yes. OCR, image processing and PDF conversion all run on your computer. Large documents with many images can take longer to index, and OCR quality depends on the source scan.
No. A citation shows the evidence PrivateCite used; it does not certify that the conclusion is correct. Click any reference to open the direct source passage, inspect it in context and decide whether the evidence supports the claim.
PrivateCite sends the prompt and the retrieved source passages needed to answer and produce citations to the endpoint address you configure. When that endpoint is on your LAN, the transfer stays within your private network. Nothing is sent to PrivateCite or Seerware.
No. PrivateCite does not impose a daily token or usage cap on the bundled local model or a model you operate on your LAN. The software is a single purchase with no PrivateCite subscription required. Any limits configured on your own endpoint still apply.
Yes. PrivateCite can connect to an OpenAI-compatible API endpoint running on another computer on your LAN. There is no additional PrivateCite fee for this connection; you control the model, hardware, access and network boundary.

Application-managed data and indexes are stored in Windows' Microsoft Store-managed app storage. User-facing PrivateCite files are stored under Documents\PrivateCite. Uninstalling removes the app-managed data while intentionally leaving Documents\PrivateCite for you to review or delete yourself.
